Born in Austria, Klaus Maria Brandauer studied at the Stuttgart Hochschule für Musik und Drama. He began his acting career in theatre in 1962, and made his film debut in 1972. His many film appearances include the role as Hendrik Höfgen in “Mephisto” (1981) directed by István Szabó.
