Maria, Pinuccia, Lia, Katia and Antonella are five sisters. They live in an apartment in Palermo and make a living by renting doves for ceremonies. However, on a normal day at the beach, Antonella accidentally dies. Her death forever changes the sisters’ relationships.
Adapted from her own acclaimed play, Emma Dante’s decades-spanning drama is a sensitive portrait of sisterhood unraveling under the weight of familial tragedy. Evocatively set in sun-drenched Palermo and anchored by images of fluttering doves, the film ruminates on the delicate art of letting go.
