Yakov Alexandrovich Protazanov (1881-1945) was a Russian and Soviet film director and screenwriter, and one of the pioneers and founding fathers of cinema of Russia. Among his 70 feature films the sci/fi “Aelita” (1924) is considered a masterpiece.
