Synopsis

A traveler goes on a journey through the vast territory and isolated villages of Siberia, recording his observations on its people and places, wildlife and culture. Urbanization, reckless deforestation and the demise of the wooly mammoth all fall under his critical gaze.

Our take

Bolstered by a cheeky script and a spirited score from the French New Wave’s Georges Delerue, Chris Marker’s stunning travelogue charms with a sweet tenderness for the people and the landscape of Siberia. As in his other celebrated works, the presence of animals is at once unexpected and delightful.
