Mary, a lonely 8-year-old girl living in Melbourne’s suburbs, picks a random name from the phone book to find a pen pal. She starts to write to Max, an obese 44-year-old Jewish man with Asperger’s Syndrome living in New York City. Over two decades, an unlikely friendship blossoms between the two.
