Synopsis

As he prepares to leave Tajikistan, anthropologist Paul Dédalus reflects on three moments from his youth. First, his childhood in Roubaix, then a school trip to the USSR. Finally, he recalls university life in Paris and partying in his hometown. Most of all he remembers Esther, the love of his life.

Our take

Arnaud Desplechin directs Mathieu Amalric in this whirlwind melodrama, a sequel of sorts to the director’s epic My Sex Life…or How I Got Into an Argument. Subtly evoking the free-wheeling nature of youth, My Golden Days is a personal, emotionally resonant portrait of adolescence.
