In the mid-2000s, Joël Girard, a charismatic and endearing soldier, is about to be deployed to Afghanistan. His wife and son, Michelle and Jacob, must learn to live with this new reality. In an effort to get closer to Jacob, Joël starts coaching his soccer team, the Phoenixes.
