Synopsis

Over several days, an actor and actress read letters between the director’s Argentinean father and Indian mother, spanning the 50s-70s, discussing love, travels, politics and broken dreams. The reading mirrors their own bond, while the director and his daughter explore a family memory puzzle.

Our take

Resurrecting his parents’ tumultuous romance from the fading remnants of love notes and family photos, Andrés Di Tella’s documentary is a stirring work of cinematic archeology. Deftly moving from home videos to dramatic voiceovers, Private Fiction ponders the slipperiness of memory and photography.
