Song of Granite follows the dramatic life story of legendary traditional Irish singer Joe Heaney (1919-1984), from his boyhood in the picturesque village of Carna in Connemara to his anonymous life as a New York City doorman, and finally to recognition at the Newport Folk Festival in 1966.

With elements of fiction and documentary, Pat Collins celebrates the art of Sean-nós singing through an atypical, poetic portrait of traditional Irish folk singer Joe Heaney. This work of stirring beauty, shot in sumptuous B&W cinematography, is an ode to the power of singing—Happy St Patrick’s Day!
