Our take
Alain Resnais immerses himself in the shadowy and macabre world of the 1930s French aristocracy for his 1970s biographical drama, Stavisky. Romantic, even elegiac, and very much stalked by death, this game of deception stars the legendary New Wave star Jean-Paul Belmondo.
