In 1913, the young Irisz Leiter arrives in Budapest with high hopes to work as a milliner at the legendary hat store that belonged to her late parents. She is nonetheless sent away by the new owner. But when she finds out she may have a brother, Irisz scours the dark streets of Budapest to find him.

After emerging as a talent to watch with the audacious Son of Saul, Hungarian director László Nemes returned to the spotlight with this labyrinthine, woman-led period drama. As rich as it is in visual ideas, Sunset also serves as a cogent reality check on our past and, more urgently, near future.
