Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
Chaplin plays an escaped convict on the run from prison guards. He falls into favor with a wealthy family after he saves a young lady (Edna Purviance) from drowning, but her suitor (Eric Campbell) does everything he can to have Chaplin apprehended by the law.
Charlie on the lam! The last short he made for Mutual, and one of the most popular, The Adventurer ups the tempo for a chase-happy caper, with location shooting on the California coast, an inventive use for ice cream, and (of course) Chaplin’s trademark physical wit. Restored in HD.
