Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
Nicola, a man who seems lost, has an appointment with her sister Juliette. They are united by a heavy secret from childhood: her mother committed suicide when they were children. Nicolas was blamed for his father for that event, he cast Nicola out the house and forbade him to see Juliette.
Influenced by Cocteau’s Les enfants terribles, Benoît Jacquot’s second feature sees yet another pair of siblings in crisis. The intense brother-sister bond borders on incest yet it also invokes the inescapable tentacles of familial trauma. Their restless present recalls a past that never sleeps.
