A young man, half-Jewish, joins Mussolini’s Ethiopian campaign, but returns disillusioned by the atrocities he had witnessed. He leaves his wife and takes up a job as a journalist, but the race laws become more stringent, and, unable to find a publisher for his novel, he kills himself.
