Synopsis

Ann, a morose New Yorker in her 30s, feels stuck in all areas of her life—the years have gone by quickly in her long-term casual BDSM relationship, low-level corporate job, and quarrelsome Jewish family. As she begins to feel increasingly alienated, she wrestles with herself and her relationships.

Our take

Written and directed by its sardonic star Joanna Arnow, this critically acclaimed film drily demonstrates the ceaseless absurdity of modern dating, sex, and work. Another New York tale of millennial aimlessness? Not quite: abject comic timing and a candid feeling for kink set this oddball apart.
