A lonely boy looks for an escape from his abusive parents, so he plants some strange seeds to grow a grandmother to love and comfort him.
The Grandmother finds David Lynch utilising a wild array of techniques— from animation and stop-motion, to black-box live-action and puppetry—for a fable that’s at once tender and nightmarish. The visuals are astonishing, but it’s the remarkable sound design that truly elevates this essential short.
