When Mr. Pinkerton is about to go the theater with his wife, she complains that her evening dress is not of the latest fashion. Annoyed, he seeks out a good friend who introduces him to the beautiful Miss Juliane. Believing that Pinkerton is a wealthy man, she intentionally burns a hole in her gown.
