Synopsis

British explorer Percy Fawcett journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and finds evidence of an unknown civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Ridiculed by the scientific establishment, Fawcett doesn’t give up on his venture, until mysteriously disappearing in 1925.

Our take

One of the best studio films of the 2010s, The Lost City of Z is both about white colonialism and an indictment of it. Set in the Amazon, lavish imagery and a touch of classic Hollywood melodrama makes this a quintessential James Gray (Ad Astra) film, despite being his first away from New York.
