The people of Jerusalem are brutally suppressed by Syrian occupation forces. When the Jews resist, the new governor Apollonius exacts a terrible retribution: his soldiers murder the citizens and ravage the city. The survivors of the massacre flee into the desert, where they plot a counterattack.
