Our take
For the dawn of the Heisei era, the series went back to basics with this direct sequel to the original film. With remarkable miniature effects, and a tone that hews closer to horror than any of its predecessors, The Return of Godzilla resets its saurian antagonist as an unrelenting force of nature.
