Our take
Cao Hamburger’s earnest coming-of-age tale successfully walks a fine line between sweet nostalgia and potent drama concerning an especially dark time in Brazil’s recent past. Anchored by magnetic child performances, this is a rich portrait of Jewish life in South America’s most populous city.
