In 1983, director Miloslav Luther filmed the five-part TV series Doctor of a Dying Time based on a script by Vladimír Körner. In 1990, the authors decided to edit this successful series about the fate of the famous doctor and philosopher of Slovak origin Ján Jesenský – Jessenia – into a feature film
