The series follows the life of Niijima Yae, a member of a Samurai family thaat belong to the Hoshina clan, loyal to the Tokugawa Shogunate. Skilled in gunnery, she helped defend the Aizu Domain during the Boshin War, and became an advocate for higher education for women.
