Exactly 100 years ago, large parts of North Holland were hit by a heavy flood, there were deaths in Edam, Marken and Volendam. The ‘Waterlandsche Vloed’ was the direct reason for the construction of the Afsluitdijk, where the turbulent Zuiderzee was tamed.
