No longer able to drive and forbidden to travel alone, Carrie Watts is trapped in an apartment in 1940’s Houston, Texas with a controlling daughter-in-law and a hen-pecked son. She plans her escape to her idealised Bountiful, the small Texas town of her youth which she still refers to as “home.”
Geraldine Page finally took home a long overdue Oscar® (following 8 nominations) for this wistfully nostalgic road movie. John Heard and Rebecca De Mornay lend nimble support, but this is Page’s show: a full-bodied, unsentimental leading role for one of the great American actors of stage and screen.
