Synopsis

A tale of love, betrayal, and grace centered around two working-class New York couples. Jack and Connie are two single people who on their own might continue to recede into the city’s anonymous background, but in each other begin to find the courage and desire to pursue their budding relationship.

Our take

A heartfelt romantic comedy, Philip Seymour Hoffman’s lone directorial credit is a delicate adaptation of Robert Glaudini’s play. Reuniting most of the off-Broadway cast—including Hoffman—the film imparts its performances with a visual knack that uplifts the material into impressionistic cinema.
