Our take

Before winning the Venice Film Festival’s Special Jury Prize for Sweet Country, cinematographer Warwick Thornton took home the Camera d’Or at Cannes for this, his film debut. An arresting, uncommon portrait of contemporary Australia that’s both love story & tragedy, set in a Aboriginal community.
