Though its nice to see the late career resurrection of Kevin Costner continue this latest effort from Besson's Eurocorp group is a failure on most every level. It tanks as both a father/daughter story and as an action picture. Several action set pieces are quite good, but this 'Taken' lite is really pretty awful mostly due to its dopey dialoque and an extremely miscast Amber Heard who looks ridiculous.
if i had any expectations for this they might not have been met. but costner as neesen, i had zero. the forced humor didn't interest or detract me so it wasn't a big disappointment. now Lucy! that was disappointing.
Amusing but absurd film with a sevre identity crisis. It veers between genres and styles and never seems to settle for either grit or laughs. It seems the filmmakers throw every cliché they know at the screen to see what sticks. I feel sorry for Costner who actually tries to make sense of his character amidst all the talentless madness.
This is so stunningly bad it becomes a surreal experience. If you were unaware of the above the line credits going in, you would assume the director and writers had never seen a competent film, much less ever made one. Dreadfully flat performances, incomprehensible (yet on the nose) writing, deadly direction, and a who cares subplot make this abysmally dreadful and one of the worst of 2014. Holy FAIL.
Amber Heard can't act to save her life in this overlong and ridiculous film. Mostly family drama than action, the abundance of the characterization bogs down what could have been a more-or-less technically efficient "Crank" copy.
