Edward Yang Taiwan, 1994

waywardwaters's rating of the film A Confucian Confusion

With this work, the brighter side of a comedic duology brimming with double entendres, Yang shatters two AIDS-ridden fowls (American egalitarian democracy and Chinese Confucian hypocrisy) with one stone. What may be the most impressive is his ability to wade past the cesspool of egregious conformity and chicanery to conserve an optimistic flicker for humanity, warming soup for the suicidal cubist's “soul.”
