Remarkably well assured for a first film, this story of (a getting on in his years) closeted gay man with a serious Oscar Wilde jones is set in 60's Dublin... Alfie (disastrously) tries to put on a production of Salome, and near the end, in an aborted assay, tries to finally take his sexuality by the reins...corny, but touching, with a bittersweet ending, this little film is worth the price of admission, all in all,
