Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
A fisherman, Kishore, marries Basanti when he visits a nearby village. After their wedding night, she is kidnapped on the river. When she is found, she has amnesia—although she does not remember her new husband’s name or what he looks like, she does remember the name of his village.
At once the nucleus of a fishing community and a metaphor for its struggles, the titular river is a source of untold beauty in Ritwik Ghatak’s masterpiece. A multigenerational saga that ebbs and flows with the rituals of everyday life, A River Called Titas is one of the key works of Bengali cinema.
