Legendary filmmaker Kenneth Anger exhumes newsreel footage of mighty dirigibles hovering ominously in the sky, the filmmaker’s characteristic fusion of magick, symbolism, mystery and myth imbuing the already incredible footage with an eerie, supernatural quality.

Stupid silly, but a gloriously irreverent ode to bulbous flying phalluses and their suggestions of relaxed, effortless futurism and calming sexual interludes…until, that is, swastikas are revealed on dorsal fins, and, of course, the blimp to end all blimps erupts in flaming spurts.

Airship has some frankly silly aspects, like the bulbous cloud-font titles. (Latter-day Kenneth Anger entails some lapses in taste. I considerMouse Heaven and Don’t Smoke That Cigarette! to be virtual throwaways.) But the three segments, while distinct, rhyme and contrast in terms of mood and timbre.
