Beautiful, interesting, incredible cinema.
A poor tailor in Baghdad wins the hand of a princess thanks to a series of adventures involving a magic lamp and the genie that lurks within.
Lotte Reiniger’s magical interpretation of the story of an impoverished tailor from Baghdad cleverly uses the layering of her intricate silhouette animation to convey the unimaginable wonders of sea and desert. Unlike Disney’s later film, the genie plays second fiddle to Aladdin’s moral reckoning.
