The first season of an anthology series that centers on different characters and locations. It centers on the Harmon family, who move to Los Angeles into a restored mansion, unaware that the home is haunted by its former inhabitants.

Although it brings all of horror cliches to TV-time, it brings them with such commitment that's impossible not to dig this american house of spooks. The twists, the gore scenes, the scares - it's a full package and it adds indeed to north american television prime time. A nice season to start with.
The much celebrated Shyamalan-esque plot "twist" really wasn't. The macabre humor and Lange's slithery performance hold strong as the plot devolves into ever growing preposterousness.
This and Asylum (the second season) are hands down the best of the show. Even though it becomes convoluted in areas it still is worth a watch for desperate horror fans.
After watching the 2 seasons of Scream Queens I decided to give AHS a shot. I really liked the first season. Intriguing, full of interesting characters and creepy as hell. Loved the cast as well.
Objectively awful high-camp smut that nevertheless breathed new life into a dead television landscape. AHS-1s offensive caricatures are acted with resolute sincerity, leading to beautiful moments that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I don't think the creators even realized their moral is the most frightening thing about the show: hedonism conquers, and when you are dead and gone, there are no consequences.
