I guess there are some little bits in the execution (and bits w/ the two leads) that I like, but I don't like myself for liking any of it. Basically, on the face of it, this is just intellectually and ideologically despicable stuff. Militirized fantasia bile stream. Basically fantasy camp for stoned gamer boys dreaming in their own dank sad. Little sloths incapable of becoming killing machines old-fashion'd-style.
Thoroughly unpleasant affair that can't decide if it wants to be raunchy or filled with action. Mostly, it just lumbers around in the realms of a convoluted plot and wallows in bong exhaust. There's some good romanticism between the two leads, but that is quickly overshadowed by more trademark stoner stupidity and noisy action sequences.
A schizophrenic little film unsure of its tone and intent but often enjoyable regardless. Performances are all over the map here but somehow the package gels into something quite watchable. The grocery store sequence is quite striking as action set pieces go.
I mean.. who would think this was gonna be a masterpiece? nobody. But it was entertaining, quite funny and Kristen Stewart is awesome, as well as Jesse Eisenberg! :)
Oh AND in which weird stoner action movie are the LADIES kicking ass?? tell me! This is important! Mike and Phoebe are equals here, which is really rare! So not really a bad movie after all ;)
Really fun stoner comedy/action movie. The credits have wicked animation which are actually better than the 90min prior to them - not to say they were shit, because I'm a sucker for Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, and stoner films, but man the credits were so cool.
When someone tells me a film doesn't have to change the world, it can know what it is and have fun doing it, this is the type of film I think of. It's silly, but embraces it. It's heartfelt and emotionally grounded but doesn't revel in it.
