Armored Car Robbery is a weak title to a solid heist picture with a few hints of film noir. Its also got a lot of elements that would seemingly influence everything from The Killing to Heat. It follows the cops and the robbers equally and does a great job in doing so. Nice little gem.
Solid hardboiled film noir from director Richard Fleischer. It does have its melodramatic moments, but it's tightly-plotted with great moody black and white photography and tough-talking characters. Good B-movie fun for noir fans.
It is your lucky day when you fall on to this nervous B-movie out of a double-feature. The script might be a bit too ordinary but the sharp editing makes up for it. The second rate casting is also a pleasant surprise and Fleischer cuts right were the shots should end : it is not common to tell that much in 67 minutes and it demands some serious craftiness and storytelling. Low budget but high tempo all the way !
Excellent petit film noir américain, mené avec dextérité et détermination, de bout en bout, par un Richard Fleischer parfaitement inspiré, secondé par un chef opérateur de qualité, donnant lieu à une réalisation peu connue par la critique...
Doesn't exactly compare with other heist movies, but still a nice way to spend an afternoon. Both cops and robbers are equally interesting characters, and there are some tense moments that compensate the weaker parts.
