The first thing to be said about BARBED WIRE is that it's a self-consciously modest movie—intimate in its scope and compact in its storytelling. If not for the presence of Pola Negri and Clive Brook in the leading parts, it might easily be confused for a B movie—and a very accomplished one at that.
