Walked in the cinema with zero expectations yet came out pretty damn fulfilled when its over. Thought Affleck really nailed it as Bruce Wayne AND Batman. I even liked him better than Bale. Is there something wrong with me? Overall, I enjoyed the set-up universe, the casts, the stylization, well most things. So, hooray!
A mess, certainly -- but a fascinating, often impressive mess. While subtlety is not in his vernacular, Snyder, ever-perched on the fence between vulgar auteurism and auteurism proper, unfurls arresting imagery, and a tangle of narrative threads that iron out into a climactic cohesive whole just as it all threatens to become unwieldy. Affleck is a laudably, refreshingly feral counterpoint to Bale's stoicism.
1STAR= the typical atheist smug, brags about his intuitive skills which are sketchy at best, never had a relationship to last more than 2 weeks, prefers beer over water, wears ponytail, judges cinema by using the scientific method; 2STARS= the ‘fair-minded’ guy, actually believes kubrick is smarter than zack snyder, writes constructive yet weightless criticism, watches goodfellas re-runs for xmas, probably american ↓
The plot is a mess (I counted, at least, six storylines) but once the characters are all in the same place, the movie really finds it's balance. This is a movie made for a specific audience, so you can't expect something that will change your life. It was definitely better than I expected. The editing is awful during the first half. Affleck absolutely nails it. I need to see the Director's Cut.
Who gives Zack Snyder 250 million to butcher franchise after franchise? He mutilated 'Watchmen' and now he is sullying the reputation of DC comic adaptations. Cavill, Affleck, Adams, Gadot, Eisenberg, Hunt and Irons are fine, it is Bruckeimer's surrogate heir that I take issue with. If the distributors merely rate the film by dividends, then it's a steaming pile of success. Forgive me if I call bullshit.
Why don't we apply that "if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best" here. So if you can't get over the weak plotting and overbloated CGI, then you don't deserve to see the best rendition of Batman's origins, Jesse Eisenberg's Moriarty-like portrayal of Lex, and of course WONDER WOMAN ENTRANCE WHICH COULD VERY WELL BE THE MOST AMAZING ENTRANCE IN THE HISTORY OF SUPERHERO MOVIES EVER.
ben affleck and henry cavill are two of the least charismatic people i've ever seen but like i had fun with this piece of trash (xtra stars for gal and jesse !!)- i'll take this over any of those wank avengers films any day
1 BvS's best thing is Excalibur playing at the theatre outside of which the Waynes are murdered. 2 Snyder should focus on doing opening credits sequences. 3 He creates striking self-contained images but has no idea how to craft clear action. 4 It's a spectacular mess, which makes it more interesting than Marvel's routine exercises. 5 If we ponder on our failures as society then, sadly, this is the film we deserve.
