Lyne's thematic approach is shallow and uninteresting. The kind of attitude you would expect from a distracted high school student. Milestones and landmarks are ignored. Contexual information is missing. There's no critical framework. Some of the choices are puzzling: Carrie 2? Bubble Boy? The YouTube-like montages of sexual intercourse and masturbation scenes makes this "doc" well Below Clueless.
Superficial and uninteresting compilation of teen-movie clips. What you might expect from a typical film student exercise. The narration lacked depth as well as any original insight from director Lyne. There was also no cultural or historic context, key landmark shifts in cinema as a whole or indeed any other critical background.
an interesting look at a genre of film which in my opinion is not given enough respect. not all films chosen for analysis would have been my personal choices but obviously, film is subjective. loved the voice over from fairuza balk.
Not quite a documentary, feels like someone's undergraduate film theory thesis. Some interesting analyses of favorite teen flicks (really got into that IDLE HANDS breakdown), but overall lacked any compelling cohesive statement about what these movies tell us about the American adolescent experience and Hollywood's portrayal of teenagers. Several long sequences of film clips without commentary. A+ soundtrack, though.
