Not quite as good as BM of 36, or the follow up in 40. This one still succeeds due to more great support from Ebsen and Powells excellent routines. Songs are just ok here, but the dancing is spectacular. Garland gets early boost here singing an ode to Gable. Good fun. 3.5 stars
Movies were integrating musical numbers into the plot long before the 1950s. This movie has a few integral numbers...including one danced in the rain that's quite innovative. The big finale is poor, but the rest is good stuff. (PS...the still above with Judy Garland is not in the movie...it was cut before release).
