What are people saying?

  • mpho3's rating of the film Camp 14: Total Control Zone

"It’s a remarkable story, but it’s undermined by ... large sections of Shin’s reminiscences overdubbed by a British narrator with the most soporific voice imaginable. Also, ...[Shin's] first experiences of the world outside the fence are skimmed over. A fascinating story but an occasionally frustrating film." - Tom Huddleston, Time Out. 2.5 stars.

  • Kyle Knapp's rating of the film Camp 14: Total Control Zone

The only doc I've seen on the subject of NK that doesn't mention the Kims, their ideology, or the misrepresentative totalitarian playground of Pyongyang. Shin, who I've only ever seen as a prop used for his story, emerges as a complex, insightful, even frustrating person. The interviews with him and the two guards are ingenuously edited so as to delve not only into the stories, but also into the men telling them.
