**1/2. Story of an antihero who can't save his sister from torture and death, falls asleep when his wife tells him she's pregnant, fails to kill his worst enemy, is almost fatally wounded twice and doesn't know the reason he's following the butcher Hernan Cortez when asked by an Indian Prince. But it's in Technicolor and there's a sensual dance between Power and Peters. All is forgiven. Almost already forgotten alas.
Bien sympathique ! www.cinefiches.com
They say that every actor, even a bad actor, has at least one great performance in him. I don't think that Cesar Romero is really a bad actor, merely a nondescript one. However, he makes a magnificent Cortez in this film. The beard helps a lot but I think the role just suits his good nature. He has majesty here and an all-knowing assurance.
