Strange musical that seems to flit lightly over issues of domestic abuse. 'He hit me hard, but it didn't hurt'. What? For a Rogers and Hammerstein it didn't have many memorable songs. The dancing reminded me of 'Seven Brides'.
Interesting as one of the darker musicals of the era (domestic violence). The many duets and soliloquies are pretty un-cinematic, but the story retains its power. Frank Sinatra was originally cast as the lead---his absence is felt.
