[X'mas'd] - Greek myths y'all! - "I'm nobody's son". Mortals that doubt and whine about the Gods and the hand they were dealt. Gods that feed off of prayers and humans anxieties and fears and soldiers rebelling against the religious status quo. DAT IS DIP.
Lacking any mythological and historic accuracy, straying quite a bit from its namesake (i.e. the original film) and maybe having slightly too long of a run time are some issues that ultimately do not ruin the experience. It's a "mindless Blockbuster", but as filmmakers and enthusiasts, why are we not allowed to enjoy a lush spectacle of effects and epic battles from time to time? Quit the snobbery, this was fun.
If Sam Worthington can't fill Harry Hamlin's shoes, who's can he fill? Dull, lifeless cartoon looking GCI is no replacement for stop motion model work that can reflect a great artist at work. Ray Harryhausen remains the man.
This movie is garbage. Absolute fucking garbage. This movie is the epitome of Hollywood cash-in remake. It’s a prime example of modern film-making injecting too much bullshit backstory and taking things too seriously. The characters are fucking dull, it looks fucking dull— it’s absolute garbage.
Good old-fashioned adventure with monsters to kill and beauties to save. Greek gods that have internal affairs and quarrels are always fun to watch and there are some cool action set-pieces, but this one doesn't break any new ground, the human characters are one-note and boring (acting doesn't exist) and the final battle is an anti-climax. The worst is that the ending changes the entire Greek myth.
The Masterpiece. While sometimes the SFX are rather... obvious, this film has a wonderfully dark atmosphere where there nearly no hope. Well, it ends well, but it's a battle won, not the war. And on top of all there all those great actors who get gods and heroes to life.
