Completed in 1991 but not released for several years due to Orion Pictures' financial woes, "Clifford" is easy to recommend to fans of Martin Short (he's off the rails here) and Charles Grodin (so good at playing the straight man that he nearly steals the show). If only it didn't suffer from what reeks of a studio-mandated framing device in an attempt to soften the blow of what is, at heart, a pitch-black film.
