**1/2. One is bad, the other is good and they're twin sisters. Three years later, Siodmak will deal again with this theme in 'The Dark Mirror'. It's a perfect topic for a director obsessed by mirrors and reflections. There's a scene in 'Cobra Woman' that deserves to be remembered: Maria Montez goes into a trance in front of the King Cobra and points out with a sadistic smile the women who're going to die. Cult.
A grand camp confection. You haven't lived until you've seen Maria Montez, squirrelfriending it up in a silver sequined lame gown and garish headdress, writhe and wriggle in semi-erotic ecstasy around a shitty-looking snake puppet.
>>> Consternant carton-pâte et lourdes fadaises, d'une affligeante stupidité scénaristique, conçu par un Robert Siodmak en perdition, dont on ne retiendra que l'étonnante danse ophidienne de Maria Montez, dans un double rôle... www.cinefiches.com
A light adventure flick with the glorious Maria Montez but the slow pace will bore some who are unaccustomed to 40's fantasy/adventure films which are generally known for great ideas with lackluster execution.
