What are people saying?

  • Blue K, Custodian of the Cinema's rating of the film Contagion

Ridiculous from an art perspective, irresponsible from a social perspective. What a piece of shit. But hey, Soderbergh is technically accomplished. One star for that.

  • Addy K.'s rating of the film Contagion

Once you get past the cheap DV look (Soderbergh's too smart for it to not be 'intentional'), CONTAGION reveals itself as a horror movie less about death more about human industry. As one hedge fund manager tells Jude Law's evangelist: "We are interested in the opportunity here." In the midst of celebrity cameos, Cliff Martinez's groovy score and Soderbergh's clinical affectations, Matt Damon rises to the top.

  • smndvdcl's rating of the film Contagion

The clinical and mundane realism of this hypothetically apocalyptic vision of a contagious virus without an antidote, plays on the mind well after viewing. The lack of spectacle is the film's inverted calling card, and it works to an extent. The A-list ensemble negates this slightly.

  • Nick Schwab's rating of the film Contagion

The Matt Damon storyline is the only part of the film with emotional attachment, respect for characterization, and care about humanity in an otherwise connect-the-dots, fear-baiting flick that feels soulless due to its lack of linger on any of its many plot points, of which, it refuses to dissect and approach it in an inventive, interesting or dimensional way. As mind numbing as the virus that it depicts.

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Contagion

A skillfully crafted examination of disease and communication breakdown in the post-post-modern world. The film was surprisingly (and frighteningly) effective, as though it were a documentary special - thanks to the sterile, unaffected camera work and the austere pace. A fantastic "disaster movie" that truly shows the realism of disaster in regards to the general population.

  • Dave's rating of the film Contagion

Pleasantly surprised by how well this worked for me. I have to agree that this is among Soderbergh's finest of recent years (although still WELL behind Solaris). Soderbergh is one hell of a DP as well.

  • SALESK's rating of the film Contagion

chilly, brutally scientific procedural about movie stars dyin' up good. exquisitely edited; a nice morbid sense of humor (gwyneth paltrow is wonderful as a corpse); jennifer ehle is great as a scientist whose job is her religion--the fervor she has for pathology is almost a reverence. a couple nice moments of understated humanity. unfortunately, racial/cultural critique starts off strong & goes off the deep-end.

  • Hazel Cills's rating of the film Contagion

100% perfect movie, in my opinion. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Very scary due to intense realism but a few moments are almost trippy. This also has, probably, the best movie score I've ever heard. An amazing cast, Kate Winslet was my favorite. I loved loved loved it, TOTALLY engrossed from the start. Also: no opening credits? Such a good choice!
