One of the strangest, most pleasing aspects of all is how the series seems to understand single parents on a deep level. I’ve never tried to steal the moon, as Gru did in the first film, but I know what it’s like to have your daughter (adopted daughter in Gru’s case) threaten to crumple up in tears at the possibility that a scheduled “fairy princess” won’t arrive at her birthday party.
Feels like episodes of a Saturday morning cartoon stitched together with a framing plot. Very episodic with unconnected Minion breaks tossed in regularly. Each part is pleasant enough and entertaining in its own right but doesn't cohere into a satisfying movie experience. The movie seems to lean on 3D effects to bolster the entertainment value - and it looks well designed for that so see it 3D if possible (I didn't).
With a blander version of Gru and a middle section that dragged I almost didn't enjoy this sequel. But the minions, the tiny bits of pathos, and the hilarious ending won me over ("I Swear" was the last song I expected them to sing).
Great sequel, just as good as the original. Lots of funny moments and good new characters. And yeah, more minions! Not an artistic piece of animation or a masterpiece but honestly I dont care, its a really fun and entertaining movie with its own style, lots of good laughs and great characters. Conserved all the elements that made the first one so fun, added more of what people liked and added great new stuff.
