Dodge City. 1866. Wade Hatton has a confrontation with a ruthless outlaw, Jeff Surrett, who rules the town. Hatton takes on the job of sheriff, and his aim is to eliminate the Surrett gang and restore justice, to win the respect of the townspeople, and to capture the love of the beautiful Abbie.
