It was a real amateur, independent production, and it was almost everyone’s first job, all the way from the writer, director and DP to the makeup artist. The film was a testing ground, and it can lead to scenes of stilted airlessness as well as inspired lunacy, set against fascinating Los Angeles locations (it is all parking lots, funeral homes, dingy apartments). The majority of the cast were non-professionals, many clearly uncomfortable on screen. But Moore was a born entertainer.
